Why We Created Family Side Gigs

Let me guess … you scroll through Pinterest while watching TV and you see all those really cool blogs.

They promise something like, “Make _________ dollars blogging. Here is our quick and easy formula.”

And, then, like me, you keep scrolling through Pinterest for another year, hoping that someone will teach you to building your blog (or the hubby to have time to create it for you.)

I can follow quick and easy steps. I think I’ll give it a go.

So, I did. Saturday afternoon, I bought a domain name. Then, I found a premium blog that I liked. I’ve signed up for a few marketing tools and affliates (let’s see how that goes) and Sunday afternoon, I’m typing my first post.

This is a family project. My kids have side gig dreams and they need a place to practice those skills. The teenage daughter makes beautiful cards and has sold those to raise money for a school trip. Among other things, she will show our readers how to do what she does. Boowacky, our son, dreams of being a famous YouTuber (not a dream we are particularly thrilled about) but I believe, parents, the best thing we can do is to work with our kid’s creativity and passion, so he will show you a bit of videography how-to’s as he learns. My husband loves to shop for the best deals, usually on Amazon, and he wants to share those with you. I’ll share my favorite how-to’s and side gigs with you. Let me know how they work out for you!

Here is our reality check, we are the typical middle-class family and we stretch to make ends meet each month. We want to give the kids the best childhood needed (notice, I said “need” because what they “want” is a very different topic). Family Side Gigs will let us use our creative talents and possibly earn a bit of extra money in the process. Either way, the writing, editing, publishing, photography, and videography skills that the family will learn is worth its weight in gold.
