3 Ways To Save Money Shopping Online

Do you want to save money shopping online? I know I do! If you are like me, with busy family life and a career in teaching, extra money is a must during the holidays. So, recently, I set out to find the three best ways to earn money back on my Christmas shopping.

Our family unabashedly creates and trade Christmas wish lists. I know that for some this practice is a no-no. But we like to get stuff that we know the other person really wanted. This year, to make it easy for the whole family,  my husband had the idea to create Amazon Wish Lists. I think the best thing about an Amazon wish lise is that I don’t have to go to the store, I can save money shopping online. And, even better, Santa’s trusty reindeer (UPS, FEDEX, and USPS) deliver the goods straight to my door. 

Honestly, those reindeer visit us almost all year round. Aren’t we lucky? 

Thank goodness for Amazon Prime! In fact, Amazon Prime might be a great gift for someone in your family. It includes so many amazing benefits. Go ahead, click on the link and check it out. 

Now, if you really want to save money, I’d recommend reading the list below. The three websites, Ebates, SwagBucks, and iBotta, offer rebates on your online purchases. In addition, they offer other ways to earn money back, as well. There is nothing better than shopping online and receiving a check back in the mail for your hard work. (Hint, I shop, get rebates, and spend them on my Wish List. Don’t tell!)

#1: Ebates

Save money shopping online with Ebates. Ebates provides cash back on your online purchases. Now, I have a confession to make. A few years ago I bought a new computer and I completely forgot to reinstall Ebates.

But, a few days ago I accessed an old email address. And I found a recent (as in less than 24-hours old) email from Ebates telling me that I should expect a check for $16.55! $16.55, woo-hoo! Apparently, they sent a check to me a while back and, because we had moved, I didn’t receive it. So, they were reissuing the check!

I wonder how much money I’ve lost by not having the EBates toolbar installed? I downloaded it and I suggest that you do the same.

#2: SwagBucks

Swagbucks is next on my list! Similar to EBates, SwagBucks provides incentives (SwagBucks or SBs) when you shop online. But, what I like about Swagbucks is the other opportunities to earn SBs.

For instance, survey sites are a popular option to earn a little side cash. Well, Swagbucks offers surveys on both their website and their mobile app, called Swagbucks Answers. Take a survey and earn 1, 10, 20, 50, or maybe even 150 SBs for your time. Each survey displays the amount of time it should take to finish and the number of SBs you will earn for finishing a survey. And, unlike many other sites, you get 1 Swagbuck just for trying. Sure, that is basically a penny, but I’d rather have a penny than nothing at all.

There are other ways to earn Swagbucks. You can watch videos while you work, or play games, or participate in secret shopper missions. And, almost all of these are truly Family Side Gigs that you can do together! (I highly recommend that children do not watch the videos. You never know what might pop up.) #3: iBotta

Finally, let’s talk about iBotta. Just like EBates and SwagBucks, iBotta provides the opportunity to purchase from online retailers. Unlike the others, iBotta gives you the opportunity to apply offers (rebates) to your account, scan your receipt, and then receive cash credit for those offers. Here is the most important step, YOU MUST ADD YOUR OFFERS BEFORE TAKING THE PICTURE OF THE RECEIPT! That part is kinda a pain. Let me suggest two ways to make it work with little time investment. First, before shopping, take a few minutes to add offers to your app. Or, second, shop at your favorite store, and when you get home, add the offers in your app, and then scan your receipt. tBe my friend on iBotta!
