10 Easy Steps To Start Juicing Lime Scooters

Almost overnight, Lime scooters popped up in our city following Bird into our market. As soon as we saw Bird and Lime Scooters our family saw side gig potential! Let’s earn some extra money.

Charge Lime Scooters as a Side Gig to earn extra money as a family together. Scooter charging is a quick and easy side gig. A few hours a night and your bank account will thank you for your efforts. #familysidegigs, #limescooters, #sidehustle

I turned in our application to charge Bird scooters. And we waited. And waited. And waited.

Scooter Companies Are Slow with Paperwork

After a bit of waiting, I did some searching on the internet to find out what’s up:

  1. Young and rapidly growing start-ups may not have good customer service.
  2. And, I learned that Lime was replacing Bird scooters in our market. No wonder Bird didn’t respond
    1. Sudden Appearance of Scooter-Sharing System Catches City, Texas Tech Of Guard(August 29th, 2018)
    1. BirdScooters To Be Forced Out of Lubbock, Replaced by Lime Scooters (Oct. 5th, 2018)
    1. BirdOwes City of Lubbock Nearly $2,000 To Recoup Impounded Scooters (Nov. 27, 2018)

So, that didn’t take long. In the meantime, LimeScooters form an official agreement with the City of Lubbock and Texas Tech, thereby securing their place in the hearts of Lubbock students and side giggers alike.

When the first articles broke in October I rushed to Lime’s website and I turned in an application.

Keep Communicating and Lime Responds

And, then, I waited. And, waited. And, waited. It’s kind of a theme with scooter companies. Don’t GIVE UP! If you want to charge scooters for extra money, the waiting is worth it.

Finally, just before Thanksgiving, our wait was over, our Juicer information was approved and our family started our little side gig of hunting Limes and keeping them warm and toasty overnight. In fact, it’s usually my elementary age kid that pushes us to go out and grab a few.

And, really, for a busy Side Gig Family, a few Limes is about all that we can pull off.

Even so, at $4.00 a scooter, even our measly 6-8 Limes each evening can put $100 in the bank in just four days and a few hours of work.

Start Juicing Limes for Side Income

1)Apply here to Juice Limes. And wait. This part really stinks but the truth of the matter is, everyone wants a quick and easy side gig. Don’t worry too much if you don’t hear back right away. They have many applications every day.

2) Follow up. Follow-up with customer service. Send emails. Within minutes of my third email, they approved my chargers.

 3) Chargers. Once approved you will receive instructions to order your chargers. In some cities, you will meet the representative.

4) Juicer Mode. We received a box of four chargers (as promised) and then a box of four more chargers (surprise). The elementary age kid was so excited! He couldn’t wait to harvest Limes. But, wait! How do you harvest Limes? Once you are approved as a juicer and have your chargers, they turn on the Juicer Mode in your app. In theory. For us, and many others, this prompts more emails to LimeCustomer Support asking them to turn on the Juicer Mode. How do you know that you have Juicer Mode? Check out my picture. In our case, after a couple of emails over the course of a week to customer service, someone finally replied, sent all the contract paperwork that I had already signed, and asked me to sign it again. Once everything was in and confirmed, Voilà’, I could charge!

Your app will add the Juicer icon when you are fully approved by Lime.

5) Harvest Limes. This part is easy and Lime covers it well in their onboarding videos. So, I won’t cover it here. But, I did learn some important time saving (and money making) strategies. Keep reading!

6) Time to Charge Limes for Money. (updated) n Originally, Lime made scooters available for charging at 9:00 PM. But, over the last couple of months, those times changed. In our market, Lime makes their scooters available at 10:00 PM now. Some Limes with low batteries are available for charging during the day. That seems to be hit and miss.

7) Only some Limes are ready to charge. Don’t waste time looking for Limes. Not all are ready to charge, even if the battery is under 80%. Under Harvest Mode look for Limes with the lightening bolts, drive close, and ring the bell. Grab that scooter. Don’t waste time hoping that other scooters will scan.

8) Prepare a Lime harvest strategy in advance. Here’s how: open the rider map. See the battery bar attached to the Lime? Look for Limes that show a low battery, below 80%, or a range of about 18 miles or less. Take a few minutes to plan your route. Drive to the first Lime and prepare to harvest as soon as it pops up on the rider map. This is less necessary in larger cities with more Limes.

9) Navigate wisely to harvest the most Limes. Find the harvestable Limes on the harvest map and use Google Maps to navigate to each quickly. My husband drives and loads the Lime. I navigate and scans the Lime. You are in a race against the other chargers to get Limes. Go quickly.

10) Always Harvest your Limes before loading. Y’all, there are hoarders out there and they spoil the fun (and earning potential). They grab all the Limes they can get and scan them out later. They also hide Limes in their garages. These Limes are online and could earn money for Lime but instead, they aren’t being used. Which is against the rules. The best way to maintain your account is to Harvest Limes on the Harvest Map and scan immediately. Seriously, hoarders are turned in and their accounts are turned off.

Lime Suspends Rule Breakers

Since I’m on the HOARDER subject, here is a picture of a group of hoarded group of Limes. See the time, 9:05 PM. But, already gathered in one place and not ridden in quite awhile. Here is what you do.

  1. On the app, look for locations with a lot of Limes, together, but not reachable. Like, someone’s garage. Or, I turned in someone with Lime’s stashed in their vehicle parked at McDonald’s.
  2. These clusters could show up on the rider map (before 9 PM) or on the harvest map (after 9 PM).
  3. Take a screenshot of your location on the map.
  4. Click on each Lime. See the vehicle #? Take a screenshot with that number showing.
  5. Repeat for all Lime’s.
  6. Send all pictures to Lime customer service.
  7. If the person continues their violations, Lime will discontinue their account. You see, they are costing Lime money by taking their money-making machines off the road early. Lime doesn’t like to lose money any more than juicers like to lose money. There is a rumor on the Internet that Lime plans to hire part-time employees and pay them to charge their Limes. Could you make more at minimum wage hauling Lime Scooters? Doubtful. It’s a partnership, Juicers and the company have to work together for the best profits for all.

That’s it! Let me know how your Lime Juicer Side Gig is going for you!
